The Education Abroad Advisor reports to the Assistant Director of International Education and Global Initiatives.

Duties:

    • Actively assess programs and share recommendations with the Assistant Director of International Education and Global Initiatives to strengthen all programs, with particular focus on those in the assigned portfolio. (The portfolio of programs will depend on the unique background the individual brings to the position.)
    • Work as a collaborative team member with other IEGI colleagues by providing support for advising, presenting information sessions, serving on scholarship committees, marketing, mentoring Education Abroad Ambassadors, conducting campus outreach, and covering the front desk, as needed.
    • Conduct site visits to review programs, gather up-to-date information about program partners and the local environment in which students' study and live, as recommended by the Assistant Provost for International Education and Global Affairs.
  • General education abroad advising:
    • Provide general advising to Binghamton University students and non-Binghamton University students via drop-in advising hours, in person and virtual advising appointments, email, and via front desk coverage, including some evening and weekend events, as assigned.
    • Advise students at Binghamton University Education Abroad Fairs, assigned SUNY fairs, campus-wide presentations, and collaborative events. Organize, implement, and assess general information programs and topical information sessions.
    • Learn and consistently apply knowledge of Binghamton University, other-SUNY, and non-SUNY education abroad programs and the policies that govern study abroad participation at Binghamton University and within SUNY.
    • Stay up to date with best practices in advising for the specific portfolio set, as well as for education abroad advising in general.
  • Campus outreach:
    • Partner with campus colleagues to reach and support prospective, current, and previous education abroad participants.
    • Create, implement, and assess new and continuing collaborative programs.
